Dr. John D. Hoge is a
Professor Emeritus of Elementary & Social Studies
Education at the University of Georgia where he taught
for over 20 years. His research interests have focused on
children's history learning and the intersection of history
and citizenship education in national and international
contexts. He served as the State Coordinator of
Georgia's We the People Program from 2004 to 2009. In addition to
Effective Elementary Social Studies, Dr. Hoge wrote
Teaching History for Citizenship in the Elementary School,
co-authored Real-world Investigations for Middle and High
School Social Studies and has contributed many
journal articles to the field of social studies.
